Lynn Hale
1993 - 1997
Lynn Hale came to Arlington as superintendent in January 1993 from Deer Park ISD, near Houston. Immediately upon her arrival, Superintendent Hale focused on improving communication between the district and the community. Mrs. Hale was a highly visible superintendent, who rarely turned down a speaking engagement and tried to meet with everyone who appeared at her office. She retired from education in January 1998.
Among the innovations taking place under her leadership were the development of a minority hiring plan, changes to the district's discipline plan in response to minority concerns, and the restructuring of the district's Career and Technology Education program.
Mrs. Hale graduated as valedictorian from Deer Park ISD. After completing bachelor's and master's degrees at Sam Houston State University, she taught first grade in the Aldine school district. Her career includes assignments as education diagnostician and special education coordinator. She eventually returned to Deer Park as assistant superintendent and was named superintendent there in 1988.聽
Mrs. Hale's long list of community service included serving as a director of the Downtown Rotary Club and as advisor to Arlington Junior League, Arlington Night Shelter, and Welcome House. She also served on the boards of the Texas Business Education Coalition, Arlington YMCA, Tarrant County Youth Collaboration, and the River Legacy Foundation. She was president of the Texas Academic Decathlon and chaired the Tejas Executive Boy Scout Council.
Widely recognized for her contributions, Mrs. Hale was named a 1996 Legacy of Women honoree, the 1997 Woman of the Year by the Arlington Star-Telegram, and the 1997 Citizen of the Year by the Boys and Girls Club.
