Finding a lost wedding ring 鈥 it鈥檚 all in a day鈥檚 work for 91制片厂鈥檚 18 PLUSS students.
As student Ryan Young put it to the ring鈥檚 owner, 鈥淚鈥檓 glad we could save your marriage.鈥
A group of 91制片厂 18 PLUSS students saved the day recently when they found Dwayne Lee鈥檚 lost wedding ring.
Lee made sure the students knew how much he appreciated them last Thursday when he surprised them with a thank-you party complete with and custom-made t-shirts.
Lost
Lee took off his wedding ring to play golf a couple of weeks ago at . But when he went to put it back on, it wasn鈥檛 with his wallet and keys like he thought.
鈥淚 looked everywhere 鈥 in the car, all of the pockets of the golf bag, my pockets on my shorts, the ground 鈥 everywhere,鈥 Lee said. 鈥淣othing! I was sick, to say the very least.鈥
He even returned the next morning to search some more.
鈥淎t first I thought he was kidding,鈥 Lee鈥檚 wife Barbara said when he broke the news. 鈥淎t least we almost made it to 50 years,鈥 she joked.
Any wedding ring is important, but this one is extra special. It鈥檚 been on Dwayne鈥檚 hand nearly 50 years. Plus, the band matches his wife鈥檚 ring. There鈥檚 no replacing it.

Enter the 91制片厂 18 PLUSS students. These are special education students who have completed their high school requirements and are now in a one-to-three-year program that teaches job skills to help them start their careers.
鈥淭he biggest thing about 18 PLUSS is working on specially-designed instruction in the area of vocation and employability,鈥 said Brenda Cupps, the curriculum coordinator for the 18 PLUSS program. 鈥淲e specialize in working on finding them a job that fits their needs.鈥
Local businesses partner with the program to provide work opportunities for the students.
One day each week, an 18 PLUSS class from Bowie High School goes to Waterchase to work. They detail carts, fix divots, pick up trash and do whatever needs to be done.
鈥淭hey help us keep the golf course nice and tidy,鈥 said Waterchase general manager Jason Heitschmidt.
Two days after the ring was lost, the 18 PLUSS class showed up for work at Waterchase where Heitschmidt told them about the missing ring.
The students panned out to find it.
鈥淭hey were on a mission,鈥 Heitschmidt said.
After two hours of looking on the golf course, they decided to try the parking lot.
聽鈥淲hat color is that ring?鈥 one student named Isaac asked their teacher, Krista Zometa.
鈥淚t鈥檚 silver,鈥 Zometa told Isaac. 鈥淎nd he reached out and said, 鈥楲ike this?鈥
The ring! The rest of the students swarmed him in triumph.
鈥淓verybody just started running and jumping. They were so excited!鈥 Zometa said. 鈥淚t was just a big celebration.鈥
鈥淭hey were fired up when they found it,鈥 Heitschmidt said. 鈥淚t was like they won the lottery.鈥
Thank you
To say Lee was thrilled is an understatement, and he was determined to show the students his appreciation. But he hadn鈥檛 met them yet 鈥 until last week.
He did know their names though. They had all made cards and written him notes to tell him how happy they were to have found his ring. That鈥檚 where Ryan Young had written that he was glad to have saved their marriage.
So, when the students filed off their school bus at Waterchase Thursday, the Lees were waiting to surprise them with Chick-fil-A and t-shirts.
鈥淲e鈥檝e been married coming up on 50 years,鈥 Lee told the students to cheers and clapping.
鈥淭his ring made it 49 years and 11 months when I lost it,鈥 he said. 鈥淪o, y鈥檃ll reuniting it with me has really been a blessing and I really appreciate every one of you guys. I want you to know how much we appreciate you.鈥
91制片厂 trustee Dr. Aaron Reich was there to thank the students, too.
鈥淭hank you for being great citizens,鈥 he told them. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 the whole goal of 91制片厂 鈥 to help educate people to ultimately become great citizens. You are already doing that all the time every day.鈥
Hearts of Gold
The t-shirts the Lees gave the students couldn鈥檛 have been more accurate. The shirt featured the image of a ring 鈥 inspired by the picture of a diamond ring that Ryan drew on the card he made for the Lees 鈥 with the words, 鈥淗eart of Gold.鈥
That鈥檚 a perfect description for these students.
鈥淭hey are spectacular people, and they do stuff like this all the time,鈥 Zometa said. 鈥淔or them to finally be recognized for the commitment they have to the community and the surrounding partners is amazing. I want everyone to know, don鈥檛 discount them … they鈥檙e amazing.鈥
