One of the ways the Arlington Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee celebrated 35 years of continuing Dr. King’s dream this month was to award scholarships to six students for their futureÌýcollege education. And five of the winners were from the 91ÖÆƬ³§! Ìý
The scholarship recipients were the winners of the MLK Celebration Committee’s annual art and essay contests that pay tribute to Dr. King’s legacy. This year’s theme for the contests was: MLK Advancing the Dream: A Path Forward to Impact Change Across Generations.ÌýÌý
Art Contest WinnersÌý
This year’s art winner wasÌýMartin High School’s Juscianni Blackeller. As this year’s winner, Blackeller received $1,000 toward his college education. Plus, his art was featured on this year’s MLK Celebration promotional and commemorative fliers, graphics and much more. Blackeller even hadÌýhis design blazened on the 2024 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee T-Shirts.ÌýÌý
Nayely Sanchez from Lamar High School won second place for her artwork and a $750 scholarship while Alexis Alverez, from Bowie High School, took home third and a $500 scholarship.Ìý
Essay Contest WinnersÌý
Martin High School’s Dina Moalin earned a $750 scholarship for her essay about Martin Luther King Jr.,Ìýand Nicole Guajardo, from Sam Houston High School, took home the $500 scholarship.Ìý
