Cowboys and Reliant Energy present $4,000 grants

91制片厂 teachers are scoring touchdowns in the classrooms every day, and the Dallas Cowboys have noticed.

鈥淭oday is a very special day,鈥 said former Dallas Cowboy Joe Looney.

As a teacher himself, he knows it鈥檚 important to give back to his community.

The two 91制片厂 teachers became the eighth and ninth teachers to receive the monthly honor. And the Metroplex-wide program is just in its fourth year.

The initiative, sponsored by and the , aims to celebrate and support educators who go above and beyond in shaping the future of young minds.

The bus made its first stop at Dunn Elementary, where fourth grade math and science teacher Regina Evans had no idea what was coming next.

鈥淚鈥檓 shocked and overwhelmed,鈥 Evans said as her family and the Cowboys and Reliant representatives听surrounded her classroom, surprising her with a custom Cowboys jersey, an autographed听football and a $4,000 check.

Nominated by her peers, Evans is known for the love that she holds for听her students.

鈥淚t鈥檚 shocking to know that someone thought that I was deserving of such an honor,鈥 said Evans. 鈥淭o know that I am inspiring their generation, getting kids to think more lovingly or kindly and let them know that they鈥檙e valued, I enjoy pulling that off.鈥

Just a few miles down the road, Reliant and the Cowboys did it all over again at Short Elementary where alternate curriculum teacher Caylan Encinia-Caraway received the award for January. 听

鈥淭his is amazing,鈥 Encinia-Caraway said. 鈥淚t makes me happy to know that I’m doing something right for my kids.鈥

She also听spoke about her plans for the grant.

Just like Evans, her positive impact and dedication to her kids are听evident.

鈥淭hem being able to have this opportunity and the money to go towards them is really what I’m excited about,鈥 she said. 鈥淭hey deserve this and so much more.鈥

Looney felt that excitement, too.

鈥淲hen you walk into a classroom and a kid’s face lights up, that reminds you why you do it,鈥 he said. 鈥淭he amount that we ask of teachers in this country is astronomical. To see these teachers take on that role, but then go above and beyond, it鈥檚 wonderful to see.鈥

Thanks to Reliant and the Cowboys, these one-of-a-kind educators are ready to continue doing just that!

鈥淲e are so blessed to have community partners that provide our teachers with this kind of support, celebration and funding,鈥 said 91制片厂 chief academic officer Dr. Steven Wurtz.听鈥淲e couldn鈥檛 do it without them.鈥
