There have been no students at Shackelford Junior High this summer, but the campus has been busy every day. Thanks to the support of the Arlington community, a construction project funded by the 2019 Bond is providing renovations throughout the building and site that will afford a better learning and teaching environment for students and teachers.
“I am excited for the Patriot Community to see the improvements at Shackelford Junior High,鈥 said Shack Principal Kelli Smith.聽鈥淭here is nothing like new lighting and a fresh coat of paint to make you feel like you are in a whole new place.聽There are many improvements that will make all students feel a sense of school pride and community, but to list a few we will have a new elevator, new gym graphics, floor and new bleachers in gym B.聽The community can be watching for messages from Shackelford as the new marquee goes up in front of the school.聽It is exciting times at Shackelford!”
Highlights of the project include new lighting, ceilings, flooring, door hardware and drinking fountains throughout the school, plus renovations in the restrooms, electrical and plumbing improvements, and a new elevator. The gyms are being renovated as well with new flooring and new lockers in the locker rooms. Upgrades outside include improved drives and sidewalks, new parking lot lighting and a new concessions/restroom building for the athletic field.
While most of the work will be done by the start of school on Aug. 16, some work, including the gym renovations, will continue into the early part of the school year. And since construction and cleaning crews are working hard to get the building ready for school, on-site registration will not be held at Shackelford. Instead, in-person registration for Shackelford students will be held at Lamar High School Aug. 2-5. See below for more details:
