What is unique about wimbish World language academy?
Wimbish World Language Academy (WWLA) brings together a variety of language opportunities, cultural experiences and 21st-century learning for students. It is the first and only school in 91ÖÆƬ³§ that offers dual language programs in Spanish and French.
What languages will my child learn?
At WWLA, students will choose English and Spanish or English and French in the dual language program. It will be delivered as a dual immersion, 50/50 model. The core instruction will be 50 percent in English and 50 percent in Spanish or French, depending on the pathway. Language arts and social studies are taught in English. Math and science are taught in Spanish or French. Time is also included for Spanish or French literacy development for kindergarten through fourth grade. Additionally, in grades two-six students have a FLES (Foreign Language in the Elementary School) class. They may choose Spanish, French or Mandarin.
How and when can I apply?
Students can apply online at www.aisd.net/specializedprograms or www.aisd.net/wimbish-academy/wimbish-world-language-academy/. Students can apply online at 91ÖÆƬ³§'s Specialized Programs page. The application window for the 2025 - 2026 school year opens Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2024, at noon and closes on Monday, Jan. 13, 2025 at 5:30 p.m. Parent information sessions will be posted on the specialized programs page.
What grades are accepted into this program?
For the 2025-2026 school year, students in all grades, pre-K through sixth, will be accepted. Students in second through sixth grade are accepted depending on previous language acquisition and a language assessment.
How do I know if I was accepted and when will I find out?
A notification will be sent via email aInvitations for specialized programs will be sent out on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024, at 4:30 p.m., directly from specialized program campuses. Families receive one notification, either an invitation from a specialized program campus or an email explaining other opportunities if a student is not accepted into a specialized program. Families do not receive communication from each program selected on the application.
Is it free?
There is no cost to attend Wimbish World Language Academy.
Is there transportation?
Students living within 91ÖÆƬ³§ will be able to access transportation through a hub system. Designated campuses serve as hubs for students in nearby schools.

How many students are accepted each year?
Acceptance numbers will vary depending on grade level. For the pre-K program, we will accept approximately 72 students.
How does the district decide which students get accepted?
Applications are scored using a rubric, a type of evaluation tool, for the questions asked in the application. Students applying for first and second grades will need previous language skills/acquisition in either Spanish or French – depending on which track they are applying for – and will have to complete a language assessment for admission.
Do you accept out-of-district students?
Yes. Admission to students who reside outside of 91ÖÆƬ³§ boundaries will be offered after all resident applicants have been placed. However, out-of-district siblings of current students are exempt from this requirement.
Are there any information meetings, and is attending an information meeting required?
During the application window, several parent information meetings are held to review the program design, expectations and to discuss the application process. Parents must attend a parent meeting for at least one academy. The meeting, date, time and location is required on the application.
Will my child participate in P.E., fine arts or other specials at this school?
Students will participate in art, music, P.E., and strings (fifth and sixth only) just like at other 91ÖÆƬ³§ elementary schools. At WWLA, these are areas where culture is integrated to expand their experience.
Is there after-school care available?
We do have a variety of day care centers that pick up at WWLA.
