CURRICULUM

Sam Houston High School’s curriculum is varied and extensive. In addition to regular courses, there are special provisions for gifted and talented, ELL and vocational students, as well as classes for the mentally and physically handicapped students.

SHHS Advanced Academics:

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE

Sam Houston High School offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program to juniors and seniors. IB is a rigorous advanced academic curriculum that students may apply for in the spring of their sophomore year. Once accepted, students must complete coursework and assessments over a two-year period in six academic areas including English, Mathematics, Science, History, World Language and an approved IB elective (Visual Arts, Film, Dance, a 3rd Language, or Technology).

CLASS RANK AND GRADE-POINT AVERAGE

Grade-point average is based on grades 9-12. All students will be included in computing rank-in-class, with the exception of alternate curriculum students or foreign students who have been enrolled in an American school for less than two years. All credit-earning courses with approved TEKS are included in computing grade-point averages.

Honor graduates are determined using the following percentiles:

  • Valedictorian Ranked #1
  • Salutatorian Ranked #2
  • Summa Cum Laude Top 2%
  • Magna Cum Laude Top 10%
  • Cum Laude Top 20%
