]]> Current 10th and 11th Graders: IT’S TIME TO SELECT NEXT YEAR’S COURSES! /lamar-high-school/counseling/2024/10/30/current-10th-and-11th-graders-its-time-to-select-next-years-courses/ Wed, 30 Oct 2024 15:36:07 +0000 /lamar-high-school/?p=14871 Current 10th and 11th graders will soon begin the process of selecting courses for the 2024-2025 school year.  Each student will meet individually with their Counselor through their English class.  Juniors will meet with their counselor between November 6th and November 18th and Sophomores will meet between November 20th and December 6th.  Please review the Choosing Your Classes video and the Course Selection Sheet with your student before their meeting.  There is also a link to the Course Description Handbook if you need it.  If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your counselor.   (P-TECH has a different process for next year’s scheduling.)

The Richard Greene Scholar Program applications are now available.  This is an excellent opportunity if you are interested in a $10,000 scholarship and an Internship during your senior year.  For more information watch the video below or see your counselor.  Applications can be picked up from the counseling center. The completed application will need to be turned into the counseling center by 3:00pm on Friday February 7th.  Good Luck!!

Students with access to Ìý²¹²Ô»åÌý will have access to robust online reporting information that includes scores from all tests in the SAT Suite. On the score reporting portal, students can interact with their score report, filtering test questions by difficulty and skill and viewing complete answer explanations. In the BigFuture School mobile app, students will receive customized career possibilities, information about financial aid and scholarships, and guidance to help plan for college.

What is Viking U?

Viking U is an after school study session available for students. It's from 3-5pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Students can stop by and get tutoring, study tips, work with a study group from class, or form new study groups! We like to arrange the students by subject so they can ask peers questions and get them used to student-led collaborative study groups. We meet in the library and do not allow any new students in after 4, so if they need to meet with a club or another teacher as long as they have a pass and it's before 4, we'll let them in.

Students do not have to come every week, just whenever they feel like they can benefit from it. There are 2 teachers each day and always at least one math teacher to assist students.
