The front doors will be opened at 7:45 am. Children arriving to school before 7:45 am will need to wait outside of the building. During this time, children are unsupervised. An exception to this policy is inclement or cold weather days (less than 50 degrees). Students will be admitted to the front hallway on the arrival of an administrator. Students should wait on the stairs and front sidewalk until the doors open in the morning. For safety reasons, we do not allow students to play games, run, or climb on the railing while waiting for the doors to open. Breaking this rule may result in a parent phone call. We appreciate you encouraging your child to follow these rules while waiting in the morning and support us as we make student safety a priority.

Children arriving at school after 7:45 am but before the 8:10 am will report to the cafeteria for free breakfast or be supervised by members of the Berry staff who are on duty in the student's Grade Area Pod.

Student safety is our highest priority! Every adult who picks up students must have their dismissal card with them at all times. Classes are dismissed at 3:35 pm. Parents picking up children are asked to wait outside for their children in the area designated for their grade level. Students who walk home will be escorted by their teacher through either the front or side exits.

If the youngest student in the family is in PK or Kindergarten, those students will be picked up in the back of the school:

  • Parents who walk up: stand in youngest child's teacher line on the west side of the back of the school.
  • Car Pickup: wait in car line in the back of the school with the dismissal card visible on the front window.

Daycare and bus pickup are in the back of the school. School personnel will monitor students until they are picked up by their day care bus.

If the youngest student in the family is in 1st - 6th grades, those students will be picked up in the front of the school.

  • These students whose parents pick them up will exit the front doors and wait with their teachers in their assigned area.
  • Parents who are driving up must have their dismissal card visible on the front window.
  • For the safety of students, please allow your child to access your car by the curb.
  • Use the crosswalks and safety patrol person to cross the parking lot.

Students not picked up by 3:50 are brought to the office to wait with an administrator. After 3:50 pm, parents will need to enter the office to pick up their children. If there is an emergency that prevents a designated adult from picking up a child, please call the office.

Students walking home are expected to leave campus immediately. Students attending on-campus after-school club are expected to report to after-school club immediately. Except in emergency situations, once students have left the building for the day, they may not re-enter the building. In emergency situations, they are to come through the front door.

In the event a child is not picked up by 3:50 pm, the office makes every attempt to contact the parent or someone on the emergency contact list. A pattern of failing to pick up a child on time will result in contact from an administrator, and may jeopardize transfer renewals for those students attending Berry on a transfer.

Back of the School Dismissal, Daycare, and Buses:

Students will be dismissed as usual.

Walkers:

Walkers will exit the building and begin walking as usual unless the office has received notification that they will be picked up, in which case they will join car riders. If there is lightning, students who typically walk home will occupy the family center by the front office. These students will be released when it is determined that it is safe.

Front of the School Car Riders & Parent Pick Up:

If the youngest child in the family is in grades 1st - 6th, you will pick up in the front of the school. Parents who walk up to pick up must park in a parking space, not in the front driveway of the school, and wait in a line on the right side of the front entrance with their Dismissal Card. They will submit their dismissal information and wait on the left side of the entrance for their child. Parents who want to remain in their vehicle will line up in the front driveway of the school with your Dismissal Card visible through your front window and an attendant will submit your dismissal information so that your child can be delivered to your vehicle.

As part of the Texas Education Code (Sec. 37.0012), all schools in Texas shall designate a Campus Behavior Coordinator whose primary responsibility is to maintain student discipline for the campus and be a contact for parents or guardians concerning individual student disciplinary actions by the school.
