Mrs. Humbles’ Principal’s Message August 14, 2024

Hi Colts,

We are ready for you! Our first day of school will be busy, but it will be great. The energy of our teachers and students cannot be beat and I can't wait for this day to begin.

I'll send a parent email each month with a tidbit from me as well as upcoming events and dates. These events and dates are also on our socials (Facebook and Instragram) and they are communicated directly to the students involved in the programs. But it's really not about the calendar. It's just my time to reflect on the month past, get centered for the month ahead, and connect with you. I hope you enjoy these touchpoints.

Please note: Our classes are getting leveled out this week and next as we continue to enroll kids and have schedule changes. Your student may be in a class of 35+ today, but we'll get it sorted out. We are working hard to take care of our Freshman babies first, and will then work through the 10th-12th graders who know the ropes of high school a bit more. Everything will get settled quickly, but just takes some time to see who is here and what adjustments need to be made. Rest assured, we have a process for this. We just need patience and flexibility for a bit.

Senior parents, I know you are beginning the year of lasts, and today is the last First Day of School. I cannot tell you enough how amazing senior year is. I just went through it with my son (who I take to college this week). If there is one thing to take away as you start your senior year, I would say just be present with your child. I've watched senior parents for years feel such stress preparing for every event with their senior. They spent so much time stressing about making it perfect that they were truly exhausted by the event itself.ÌýDon't do that.ÌýNo one cares about the theme of the First Day of School breakfast. Or the colors you choose for napkins at the graduation party. You can use a roll of paper towels and people will wipe their faces just the same. They just care about being together and talking, laughing, and feeling relaxed and comfortable during this last year of school.

After graduation, when you send your kid off to college, or tech school, or the military, or work, you want to look back and say, "I did that right." And you will.

Enjoy this year, senior parents. It's the best year yet.

And to everyone, I hope you too can find a way to enjoy every day at Arlington High School. You'll have a senior before you know it.

Your kids are our treasure.ÌýHave a great first day of school.

Sincerely,

Stacie Humbles, Principal

Arlington High School

First here. Best here.Ìý
