AHS First Day Tips and Tricks

Hi Colts,

It's hard to believe that we are just about to start our first day of school. We know Wednesday will be tough as we navigate some construction hurdles and new areas of the building. Don't stress too much. We will help your kids all along the way!

Here's a giant list of Tips and Tricks for the first day of school.

Accessing Schedules

PASSWORD RESETS:
Over the weekend, student's passwords were reset to the default AisdMMDDYYYY (student birthday, EX: Aisd09202009). Students also have a new username and email address this year. If possible before Wednesday, please complete these steps.
  1. Log in to rapidID with the default password AisdMMDDYYYY
  2. Reset your password AND update security questions
  3. Find your new username in profile settings and be sure to write it down!
  4. Log into the Student portal with your new username and password to access your new schedule.
For additional information about the new username and emails please see thisÌýTechnology Announcement.

Parents, the easiest thing to do is log into the parent portal and get a recent copy of your student's schedule for them. Then we can help them through the process on Wednesday at school.

Morning Arrival

  • 1/7 Period begins at 7:35. Doors open at 7:00am for metal checks.
  • Students can enter Main Counseling, New B, or E Hall at morning drop off.
  • If you are dropping off at Park Row,Ìýpull all the way up to the crosswalkÌýbefore stopping.ÌýStudents can exit Park Row and go in Main Counseling or New B.
  • If you are dropping at E Hall, enter on Cooper Street and follow the signage to get to the doors. You can drop your student anywhere along the way and proceed to the exit.
  • If you are dropping off at any other location, students must use crosswalks to get to campus.
  • Please be nice to one another.ÌýAngry drivers are a danger to our students.ÌýTurn on some good music and just plan to wait 15 minutes.

Door Policy

  • Students are not to open any doors to other students or visitors.
  • Students may not enter a door that is being exited by another student or visitor.
  • During passing periods, New B and E Hall are the only doors of entry and students will be metal-checked each time they re-enter the building.
  • During passing periods, students may exit any door except New B.
  • Doors are clearly marked with expectations. Students who violate the door policy will be given consequences.

Cell Phones

  • Cell phones should not be visible in the hallways after the tardy bell rings.
  • Cell phones should not be visible while on a hall pass.
  • Cell phone policies in class are at the discretion of the teacher.

Passing Periods

  • Passing periods are 9 minutes long.
  • Students are expected to move through hallways in a polite and respectful manner.

CTC/Ag Center/CVPA/Archery/ROTC/Natatorium/Other campuses

  • Students will travel to their off-campus classes starting the first day of school.
  • Buses park at the MAC for interschool transportation.
  • Students with 1/7 period off-site are required to provide their own transportation to the site.ÌýThey can ride the bus back to AHS.
  • Bus times for off campus classes are located in all teachers' classrooms. Students will have an opportunity to look at theÌýÌýand leave class early if needed.
  • Students who miss the bus to an off-campus location report to any office.
  • Students returning to AHS from an off campus location will enter New B after showing their ID and schedule. They will receive a badge on the first day of school.

IDs

  • We will make IDs for students throughout the week.
  • Freshmen and new students will be called by class and have their first ID made for free.
  • All other students will be able to purchase a new ID for $5.

Bus Riders

  • After school buses park at E-Hall for transportation home.
  • Buses leave campus at 3:07 and do not wait for late students.
  • Students with bus passes are allowed to leave classes a couple of minutes early and should go immediately to their bus.

After School Activities

  • Students who have after-school activities in the main building should not exit the building after school.
  • Students who need to enter the building after 3:00pm must wait for available staff in order to be metal checked upon entry at E-Hall after dismissal.
  • Staff availability for metal checks after school will vary. Students will need to plan with their teachers if they need to enter the building after hours.

I know this is a lot - and there will be more to come as we make adjustments during this first week. My motto with all new information is "Table it until applicable." Save this email and refer back to whatever you need whenever you need it. You don't have to memorize everything right now.

For the next 2 weeks, we'll be training your students on all of these protocols. They will mess up. We know that. And we'll be there to correct them and help them. Warnings and reminders will be given until we feel the students have had ample opportunities to learn the procedures. (This should be around the 9th day of school.)

We cannot wait to see your kids this year. Enjoy your last few moments of summer. Here's to a great school year.

See you soon!

Sincerely,

Stacie Humbles, Principal
