Ask any AHS student or alumni to describe Arlington High School and the words always heard are "Spirit, Pride, and Tradition." These qualities are demonstrated by the students, faculty, and alumni in classrooms, competitions, or sporting events. All Colts are influenced by those who have come before them. AHS has a long and distinguished history.
A favorite phrase of the Colts is "First Here, Best Here". In 1903 a Texas Legislative Act created the 91ÖÆƬ³§. From 1904 until 1922, grades 8-11 met at South Side School. The first graduating class of five girls was in 1905. The pride, tradition and spirit of AHS had begun.
In 1922 Arlington High School was built on Cooper St. and Abram St., separating grades 8 – 11 from first through seventh grades. Arlington High students chose Colts as the mascot and the colors of kelly green and white in 1923. A big year for Arlington High was 1951 when the football team defeated Waco La Vega for the Class AA State Championship title!
A new Arlington High opened in the fall of 1956 and graduated the first class of the new building in the spring of 1957. The Arlington High School Centennial was celebrated in 2004: one hundred years of spirit, pride and tradition! The building has been added to and enlarged several different times to meet the needs of the growing population. The enrollment is approximately 2,800 students and has a faculty/staff of nearly of 250.
Students at AHS have distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, and Interscholastic League competitions. Along with a rigorous Advanced Placement curriculum, Arlington High School is an International Baccalaureate School. The Fine Arts Program is outstanding. The band program has consistently taken the Sweepstakes at UIL for the last decade. The orchestra has won Sweepstakes at UIL for over thirty-five consecutive years. The Arlington High School Choir has enjoyed much praise and performed nationally. Former AHS students have enjoyed great success in musical careers. Theatre Arts and Visual Arts students have won numerous awards and competitions.
Arlington High has had the most successful football program in the school district over the last five years with three trips to the playoffs and a 6-4 playoff record. Arlington High's volleyball program usually goes to playoffs and has more Class AAAAA state titles (1970, 1976, and 1982) than any other high school in the North Texas area. AHS also has exceptional gymnastics, softball, cheerleading, baseball, cross country, golf, swimming, soccer, and tennis programs. Wrestling consistently sends its participants to compete at state level competition.

-We have over 1600 students in athletics!
